Brave New Wold Timeline
| 1784- A young Swiss medical student, Victor Frankenstein, succeeds in creating a biological android through a combination of 18th century biological theory and renaissance alchemy. He later dies at the hands of the monster. |
| 1787- The British government forms the prototype League of Extrordinary Gentlemen. Consisting of the venerable Mr. Lemuel Gulliver, Esq; Sir Percy (The Scarlet Pimpernel) Blakeny; Lady Magurite Blakeny; The Rev. Dr. Syn (aka Captain Klegg, The Scarecrow); Mistress Fanny Hill and Mr. Natty "Hawkeye" Bumpo, Esq. Formed to meet the threat of an invasion of the Earth from Sirius apparently precipitated by Baron von Munchausen during his sojurn in space, the group remains active for several years. |
| 1795- The Wold Newton Incident. Outside the village of Wold Newton in Yorkshire, a number of people are travelling in two coaches, when a meteor strikes nearby, irradiating the passengers. In the first coach are the 3rd Duke of Greystoke and his wife, Alicia; Alicia's brother the 11th Lord Tennington (George Rutherford) and his wife, Elizabeth Cavendish; Honore Delagardie and his bride, Phillipa Drummond; and the coachman Lupin. The second coach is driven by the coachman Lecoq, and contains the man who had saved Delagardie, Lupin and Lecoq from revolutionary France: Sir Percy Blakeny, the Scarlet Pimpernel. In addition, it holds the Pimpernel's second wife, Alicia Clarke Raffles; Sir Hugh Drummond and his wife Georgia Dewhurst; and Dr. Siger Holmes and his wife, Violet Clarke. Decedants of those present at the Wold Newton Incident include Sherlock Holmes, Mycroft Holmes, A. J. Raffles, C. Auguste Dupin, Lord Peter Whimsey, Nero Wolfe, Professor Challenger, Doc Savage, Monk Mayfair, Tarzan, Korak, Denis Nayland Smith, Bulldog Drummond, Flash Gordon, Professor Moriarty, Wolf Larsen, Charlie Chan, James West, Fu Manchu, Lo Fah Suee, John Henry, Lex Luthor, Captain America, John Shaft, Buffy Summers, Biggles, William the Bloody, Rasputin, Mr. Moto, Dr. Loveless, Dr. No and perhaps dozens more of the best known heroes and villains of the last two centuries. |
| 1859- Formation of second League of Extrordinary Gentlemen- Col. Sir Harry Flashman, Alice Liddell, Phineas Fogg, Lady Ada Lovelace and Gunga Din- to combat Frankenstein's Monster. The League remains in existence for two years. |
| 1899- Formation of third and final League of Extrordinary Gentlemen immediately prior to Moriarty/Fu gang war which levels part of London. This league consists of Miss Wilhelmina Murry (ne Mrs. Mina Harker), Mr. Alan Quartermain, Captain Nemo (Prince Dakkar), Dr. Henry Jekyll/Mr. Edward Hyde and Dr. Hawley Griffin (The Invisible Man), and it is the longest lived of all the Leagues, albeit with a few changes of membership over the years. |
| 1900- Invasion from Mars, southern England. The League swings into action, and the damage is minimal. |
| 1905- Following the failure of the 1905 Revolution, exiled Russian disidents form KAOS. This is a unique revolutionary organisation, advocating violent overthrow of all governments, but having no specific platform for reform. |
| 1914- World War One begins. |
| 1917- League of Extrordinary Gentlemen fails to head off Russian Revolution; League disbanded, no further Leagues are formed. |
| 1918- With Germany on the brink of surrender, the Zepplinwerks at Friedrichschaffen produce the Luftschiff Kapiten Mors, the largest military airship ever manufactured. Ace pilots Biggles, Lord Flashheart, G-8, Korak, Buck Rogers and Kent Allard join forces to destroy it before it can reach London. The Armistice is signed soon after. |
| 1919- Members of former Moriarty front organisations reorganise as THRUSH, th Technological Hierarchy for the Removal of Undesirables and Subjugation of Humanity. |
| 1920- Capt. Hugh "Bulldog" Drummond saves England from communist revolution. |
| 1934- The Band of Brothers formed, consisting of Doc Savage, Tarzan, The Shadow, The Phantom XX, Charlie Chan, Bulldog Drummond, The Spider, The Avenger and Indiana Jones. |
| 1935- "Rogue Planet" affair; Earth's imminent invasion from the planet Mongo is only forestalled by the humans Flash Gordon, Dale Arden and Dr. Zarkov travelling to Mongo by rocket to take on Emperor Ming directly. |
| 1938- On October 31, a combined Mongo/Martian invasion force arrives at Grover's Mill, New Jersey. Advanced agents have arranged for a "hoax" broadcast to convince US authorities that the invasion is fictional and that reports of Martians will be ignored until it is too late. The Band of Brothers swings into action and the invasion is defeated. However, The Phantom, Inspector Chan, Bulldog Drummond and the Spider are all killed in the fighting; Tarzan and Indy are seriously injured. |
| May, 1939- Superman makes first public apearance in Cleveland. |
| November, 1939- Germany invades Poland, triggering World War II. |
| 1940- The Justice Society of America is formed in New York at the implicit suggestion of President Rooseveldt. Consisting of Superman, Batman, Robin, Wonder Woman, Captain America, Hawkman and the Spirit. The JSA remains active until after the war. |
| March, 1941- Sapient Venusian worm Mr. Mind forms the Monster Society of Evil consisting of himself, Baroness Paula von Gunther, the Octopus, the Scarecrow, the Red Skull, and Vandal Savage. Lex Luthor joins later, followed by Frankenstein's Monster. The Society never officially disbands, but winds down rapidly in the post-war years. |
| November, 1941- Following the bombing of the Pearl Harbour naval base by the Japanese, the USA enters the war. |
| c. 1942- Ernst Stavro Blofeld and Dr. Julius No found the organisation that will eventually become SPECTRE, the Special Executive for Counterintelligence, Terrorism, Revenge, and Extortion. |
| 1946- Dr. Evil begins his rise to power. His company, Chaudpoche-Stupefiant General de Belgique, soon moves to America where it becomes the Evil Corporation and, later, the Dr. Evil Experience. |
| 1949- The Chinese Communist Party completes the takeover of China. Unbeknownst to the world, the CCP is secretly backed by Fu Manchu and his organisation, the Si Fan. |
| 1950- War begins between North and South Korea, soon drawing in the USA, Britain and China. |
| 1951- Hawkman killed by Vandal Savage and Frankenstein's Monster. |
| 1952- Without the help of the well connected and outspokenly conservative Hawkman, the JSA disbands under pressure from the House Un-American Affairs Committee. |
| 1953- Chinese forces in Korea awaken the giant monster Yonggary, intending to direct him at US lines. Instead, the creature runs amok, until Doc Savage and his friends defeat the monster, at the cost of Pat Savage's life. Doc and Ham Brooks go on to negotiate a peace settlement between the waring nations. They are awarded the 1953 Nobel Peace Prize, the money from which they use to found the Patricia Savage Memorial Institute for Peace. |
| 1954- As various UN countries come under increasing threat from THRUSH, the UN forms UNCLE to fight this menace. |
| 1958- The superpower space race is short circuited when Belgium launches a nuclear-powered rocket to the moon. Unless one believes the wild claims of Cyrano de Bergerac or Baron Muchausen, Belgian journalist Tintin is the first human to walk on the moon. The Marine Espace de Belgique is soon formed. Later this becomes the Marine Espace de Europa, but remains largely under Belgian control. |
| 1959- Adventurers "Prof" Haley, "Rocky" Davis, "Ace" Morgan and "Red" Ryan all survive near certain death in an air accident. Realising that they were now “living on borrowed time”, they decide to make the best possible use of their second chance at life, becoming the death-cheating Challengers of the Unknown. |
| 1960- "Hulk Incident". Hundreds of lives are lost when an super-strong, bullet proof giant rampages across the American south-west. The "Hulk" is eventually stopped by the US Army, with the assistance of Superman. The "Hulk" was discovered to be missing atomic scientist, Dr. Bruce Baenerwicz, who had mutated rapidly over a period of weeks following his exposure to an unknown form of radiation at Los Alamos. A cure was found and Baenerwicz restored to human form, but this proved temporary. Baenerwicz reverted to his berserk, monstrous form. The Hulk was then reluctantly killed by the troops of General "Thunderbolt" Rosenberg; much to the dismay of his daughter, Betsy, who was Baenerwicz's fiancé. |
| 1962- As KAOS begins making inroads in the US, the American Government forms CONTROL to combat the menace. |
| 1964- Justice League of America forms- Superman II, Batman II, Wonder Woman, Elongated Man and Green Arrow. They are soon joined by a revived Captain America and a few years later by Batgirl II. |
| 1965- Frankenstein's Monster revives the Monster Society of Evil, taking the place of the now missing Mr. Mind. The Society's core members include Angle Man, the Red Skull, Mr. Freeze, Dr. Kobra and (later) King Tut and Brainiac. This Society is less inclined to showy displays of power than it's predecessor, and has a more subvert agenda. |
| 1967-69 Mao Tse Tung has final falling out with Fu Manchu. The Chinese Cultural Revolution is the result. Fu is killed and his daughter, Fa Lo Suee, is forced into exile. Millions of Chinese are killed in the conflict. |
| 1969- Following an attack on London by the alien Great Intelligence, Britain's Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart successfully lobbies the UN for an international defence force against alien attack. UNIT is formed as a result, with Lethbridge-Stewart as head of the British division. |
| 1970-80- UNIT's British division is kept busy holding off numerous alien invasions and mad masterminds |
| 1970s- Following a string of setbacks in the late sixties, KAOS and THRUSH are forced to merge. In the UN, UNCLE is gradually wound down, it’s staff mostly go on to either UNIT or ZOWIE. In the US, CONTROL is eventually merged with the CIA. |
| 1972- Following the retirements of Wonder Woman and Green Arrow, the JLA disbands. |
| 1974- Blofeld dies, and SPECTRE is rocked by infighting. MI5 and the CIA take advantage of this to launch a major offensive. Defeated, the organisation is eventually bought outright by the Evil Corporation, which sells off most of its assets, piecemeal. |
| 1978- The "borrowed time" of the Challengers of the Unknown runs out; Rocky, Red and Ace are killed during their (otherwise successful) defense of the Hoover Dam from agents of the Si Fan. Prof survives, but is crippled for life. |
| 1992- In Moscow, an attempted coup by a liberal faction of the CPUSSR fails; coup leader Mikhail Gorbachev is exiled to Siberia for life. When the dust has settled, Marshal Gogol becomes Premier. |
| 1995- Following the assassination of Francis Urquhart, Alan B'Stard becomes UK Prime Minister. |
| 1996- The "Silent Invasion" scandal breaks. FBI agents Mulder and Scully reveal that, begining in 1956, a large number of senior US officials had been replaced by identical, vegetable-based duplicates. These "pod-people" were under the control of one Dr. Jason "The Smoking Man" Woodrue, a man who had psychic control over plant life. Woodrue confessed to working for a cabal of influential conspirators, though he only named a few before commiting suicide in his cell. The pod-people were identified, rounded up and destroyed. The named conspiritors were charged, but found not guilty due to lack of evidence. The exeption was former president George Bush, who was shot dead by guards who found him sneaking around the Roswell, NM, air force base. |
| 1997- New Chinese Premier Jiang Zemin meets with Fa Loh Suee. Later that year, he publicly praises the Si Fan during a televised speech. International observers view this is indicative of a return to power for the Si Fan. |
| 1998- An airplane carrying four extraordinary passengers crashes outside Challengerville, Montana. Incredibly, the passengers are entirely unhurt. Challengerville's most famous resident, Prof Haley, convinces them that it is a sign that they are to follow in the footsteps of the Challengers of the Unknown. The passengers- Maj. Wendy "Prima" Chan, USAF; Special Agent Fox "Spooky" Mulder; Special Agent Dana "Brains" Scully and occult investigator Harry “Sparks” Potter- move into Challenger Mountain, taking over where the original Chals left off. |
| 1999- Jeff Tracy founds International Rescue. |
| 2000- The USA elects it's first woman president, former Defense Secretrary Anne Warbucks. |
